Majuli (Assam), 12 January (HS): Five people, including two sons of the accused, were injured in a brutal attack carried out by a man using a sharp dao in Assam’s Majuli district, police said on Monday. Three of the injured are reported to be in critical condition.

The incident occurred late Sunday night in Ashok Dhuri Dhatheera village under the Sulani police outpost area. According to police, the accused, identified as Pradip Das, allegedly entered his house armed with a sharp dao and attacked his two sons while they were sleeping, leaving them seriously injured.

Hearing the commotion, local residents rushed to the spot and appealed to Pradip Das to stop the attack. However, he allegedly turned on the intervening villagers and attacked three more people, injuring them as well.

Upon receiving information, a police team reached the spot and rushed all the injured to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Hospital sources said the condition of three victims remains critical.

Meanwhile, locals claimed that five people were injured in the attack and demanded strict punishment, including capital punishment, for the accused. Police have arrested Pradip Das in connection with the incident and registered an FIR. Further investigation is underway.----------
