New Delhi,11 January (H.S.): Renowned singer and actor Prashant Tamang, winner of Indian Idol Season 3, passed away Sunday morning at his residence in Delhi at age 43. His numerous Nepali songs had garnered widespread acclaim across the region.

Close associate and filmmaker Rajesh Ghatani confirmed Tamang's death over the phone, attributing it to a cardiac arrest. The immensely popular figure in Nepal had acted and sung in dozens of Nepali films. He made his acting debut in Narayan Rayamajhi's directed Gorkha Platoon 2 and lent his voice for the first time in Himmat 2.

Tamang subsequently appeared in films such as Angalo Mayako, Kin Mayama, Dhadkan Bhitra, Nishani, and Pardeshi Parts 1 and 2, while providing playback singing for Dil, Anmol Chhan, and Himmat 2. He ventured into Bollywood with Salman Khan-starrer Battle of Galwan, completing shooting and preparing for dubbing at the time of his demise.

Born in Darjeeling, India, Tamang married Nepali air hostess Geeta Thapa in 2011; they have one daughter. He briefly served as a constable in the Kolkata Police. His debut album Dhanyawad released in 2007, featuring hits like Veer Gorkhali and Asare Mahinama.
