Delhi, 3 September (H.S.): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rains in Delhi on Wednesday, a day after persistent showers caused widespread waterlogging across the capital. Overflowing Yamuna inundated several low-lying areas, forcing water into homes. Safdarjung weather station recorded 20 mm of rainfall in a 12-hour period on Tuesday.

Authorities in Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad ordered closure of all government and private schools on September 3, anticipating further downpours. Several parts of Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad reported severe waterlogging, making commuting difficult as residents navigated knee-deep waters. The IMD forecast generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rainfall, and temperatures expected 1–2°C below normal during the day and 2–4°C below normal at night.

Delhi Traffic Police warned commuters of rising water levels in the Yamuna, resulting in closure of the Old Iron Bridge from Tuesday evening. Traffic diversions were issued at Hanuman Setu, Raja Ram Kohli Marg, and Geeta Colony Road, while motorists traveling on Old GT Road were advised to expect delays near GTK Bus Depot, Jahangirpuri, and Adarsh Nagar. Authorities urged people to rely on public transport and plan alternative routes amid ongoing heavy rains.
