New Delhi, September 3(HS):
Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay is set to begin a three-day official visit to India on Wednesday. Accompanied by his wife, Aum Tashi Doma, Tobgay will travel to Ayodhya and Gaya, two of India’s most prominent spiritual and cultural destinations, before heading to New Delhi for high-level meetings.
During his stay in the capital, Tobgay will hold talks with External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar on strengthening the long-standing India–Bhutan partnership, which has been marked by close diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties. Officials suggest that discussions are expected to focus on connectivity, hydropower cooperation, and regional security.
This visit comes a few months after Tobgay’s last trip to India in February 2025, when he attended the inaugural “School of Ultimate Leadership” conference in New Delhi. At the event, Tobgay had lauded Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing him as a “big brother” and a “guru,” while seeking his guidance on improving public service delivery in Bhutan. His warm remarks in Hindi were widely appreciated at the time, reflecting the deep personal and cultural connect between the two nations.
Tobgay’s spiritual visits to Ayodhya and Gaya are being seen as symbolic gestures that underscore shared cultural and religious linkages between Bhutan and India, reinforcing the historic people-to-people bonds that underpin bilateral relations.
