Jalpaiguri, 2 September (H.S.):

A tragic incident occurred in Chalsa, Jalpaiguri district, on Tuesday when a worker fell to his death while repairing a telephone tower. The accident took place at the Telephone Exchange office located near Chalsa Schoolpara More.

The deceased has been identified as Rafiqul Islam (33), a resident of Murshidabad. According to reports, a team of laborers from Murshidabad had arrived in Chalsa to carry out maintenance work on the tower. On Tuesday morning, Rafiqul climbed the structure for repairs but suddenly lost his balance and fell.

He was immediately rushed to Mangalbari Rural Hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.

Following the incident, Meteli police reached the site and sent the body to Jalpaiguri Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police have launched an investigation into the matter.

The incident has created shock and panic in the Chalsa area.
