Kolkata, 2 September (H.S.).

Kolkata Police arrested two criminals late Monday night from Babughat bus stand with country-made firearms and live cartridges, in connection with Saturday night’s firing incident at Muchipara.

According to police sources, the accused — identified as Ayush Jha and Piyush Gupta — were caught red-handed following a raid by Maidan police after midnight, acting on a tip-off. Preliminary investigations revealed that both were allegedly involved in the Muchipara shootout, where miscreants had opened fire in the air after a road accident before fleeing the spot.

The duo was found carrying country-made pistols and live ammunition. Investigators suspect they were plotting a larger act of violence in the city during the upcoming festive season. Interrogation further revealed that the accused were engaged in manufacturing country-made firearms and had come to Kolkata to sell them.

Police have registered a case under the Arms Act. A joint investigation has been launched by the Muchipara and Maidan police stations to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy.
