Jammu, 2 September (H.S.): With a portion of the Mansar -Udhampur road near Jamoda village in district Samba caving in, cracks have also surfaced in the houses of people of Bakarwal community in the village who are living near roadside.

As per reports, the land under all these houses is sliding and big cracks have surfaced in the residential houses and on the hilllock in a radius of half a kilometer. The cracks have appeared in the middle of the main Mansar road along with the hill. Due to continuous rain for the last few days, the houses of Jamoda ST Colony of Papad Avtara Panchayat of Nud block are built on a small island on the side of Mansar -Udhampur road. Locals said that some houses had developed cracks in the first rain but now the situation has turned grave as slowly every house in the hamlet is facing threat. Due to land sliding people are facing serious threat.

District administration, Samba has taken immediate cognizance and evacuated all the eight families. The administration has shifted them to a safer place as panic gripped the area, said Shabir Ahmed tehsildar Samba.

He said soon after coming to know that the cracks have surfaced in the residential houses of the people and road has caved in the hue, ACR Samba and other officers of the Revenue Department visited the area and took immediate steps for shifting the people living in vulnerable areas to safer places. The administration immediately swung into action and evacuated all the houses and gave them tents to live in along with food items and other essential items, he added.

He said some families have been kept in the Forest Department Office in Bindu de Beda and some families have been shifted to the Government School located in Jamoda village.

Relief material has been given to all the families so that no one has to face any problem. The members of the victim families are in shock and panic. They said that they built their houses after a life’s earnings and now they have been exposed to grave threat. They appealed the Government for early help.
