Bhubaneswar, 2 September (H.S.): The Water Resources Department on Tuesday clarified that there is no flood situation in any of the rivers across Odisha, despite a rise in water levels following recent rainfall.
Engineer-in-Chief Chandrasekhar Padhi said that while rivers such as the Baitarani, Budhabalanga, Jalaka, and Subarnarekha may see further swelling and touch the warning mark, they are unlikely to cross the danger level unless heavy rain occurs. On Monday, rainfall of 20.97 mm was recorded in the Subarnarekha basin, 43.07 mm in the Budhabalanga basin, and 30.65 mm in the Baitarani basin.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari also reassured that the situation remains under control. “Under the influence of the low pressure over the Bay of Bengal, several districts in Odisha will witness rainfall till September 5, with possibilities of thunderstorm and lightning. The average rainfall recorded in the past 24 hours is just 15 mm. Though rivers are swelling, none has breached the danger level,” he stated.
