Jarange firm on continuing until demand conceded

Mumbai, 02 Sep (HS): Mumbai Police on Tuesday issued

a letter to Maratha leader Manoj Jarange to vacate the Azad Maidan in Mumbai.

Jarange has been charged with violating the rules and conditions based on which

the permission to his agitation was granted. Jarange, however, said that his

agitation will continue until his demands are conceded. He has full faith in

the judicial system, he added.

Jarange launched an indefinite hunger strike on August

29 with a demand to grant reservation to the Maratha Community under the OBC

quota.. The Bombay High Court on Monday directed the administration to ensure

that Azad Maidan is vacated. The agitation may be continued at any other place.

The agitation has caused problems for the people in commuting in the area. A

large number of Marathas visited the place to extend support to Jarange.

Traffic in the region was disrupted due to the crowd and parking of vehicles.

Addressing the media, Jarange said that the issue of

traffic jams is being wrongly projected. He is following all the conditions laid

down by the Court. The State Government is trying to disturb the peaceful

agitation, he alleged. He reiterated that the agitation will continue at the

same place. The Maratha community workers will continue with the agitation even

if he dies during the hunger strike, Jarange said.
