Hyderabad/New Delhi, 2 September (H.S.): In a dramatic twist within the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), party MLC K Kavitha has been suspended after launching a direct attack on her cousin and senior leader T Harish Rao, accusing him of being behind the corruption allegations that have brought her father, former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), under the scanner.

The move comes a day after the Congress-led Telangana government handed over the probe into alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project to the CBI. Kavitha alleged that Harish Rao, who served as Irrigation Minister during the BRS regime, amassed assets through misuse of power and colluded with present Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to tarnish KCR’s legacy. She also named former Rajya Sabha MP J Santosh Kumar in her claims.

“We have to think about why the taint of corruption came to KCR. Some close to him benefited in many ways by misusing his name. Today his name is defamed because of their misdeeds,” Kavitha said, questioning Harish Rao’s role in the project. She further alleged that Revanth Reddy was shielding Harish Rao and Santosh Kumar, suggesting a conspiracy “hand-in-glove” against her father.

Defending KCR, Kavitha said she believed he would emerge “as pure as a pearl” from the investigation. “It hurts me as a daughter to see him go through this ordeal,” she added emotionally.

Her public outburst, however, led to swift disciplinary action from within the BRS, exposing deepening rifts in the party’s top leadership at a time when its political influence is already under strain.
