“I Can Forgive, But The People of Bihar Will Never Forgive the Insult to My Mother”: PM Narendra Modi

Delhi, 2 September (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), alleging that leaders from their stage insulted his late mother, Heeraben Modi. He said this was not just an insult to his mother, but to “crores of mothers, sisters, and daughters of the country.” Modi stressed that while he could personally forgive his political opponents, the people of Bihar would never tolerate such an affront.

The Prime Minister was addressing women via video conferencing after launching the Bihar Rajya Jeevika Nidhi Saakh Sahkari Sangh Limited. On the occasion, he also transferred ₹105 crore to the cooperative’s bank accounts. Speaking to lakhs of women participants, Modi grew emotional several times during his speech.

He began by saying Bihar is a land that worships feminine power (matrushakti), pointing to traditions like Chhath Mahaparv and Satbahini Puja that celebrate women’s dignity. “In such a sacred land, insulting words were used for my late mother from a Congress-RJD stage. This is not just my mother’s insult—it is the insult of every mother, every sister, every daughter in India. The children of Bharat Mata will never tolerate this,” Modi said.

Emphasizing his point, he added: “I may forgive Congress and RJD, but the people of Bihar will never forgive them for insulting my mother. The soil of India has never tolerated disrespect to mothers. That is why Congress and RJD should apologize to the seven sisters and to Chhathi Maiya. Mothers and sisters must come forward and demand answers from them.”

Remembering his mother Heeraben, who passed away last year at the age of 100, Modi said she lived a simple, difficult life far removed from politics, but always blessed him in his path of serving the nation. “My mother never asked for anything for herself. She worried about repairing the roof before the rains, she toiled for us every day. Even when she was sick, she went to work. She endured every hardship for our family. To abuse such a poor mother’s struggle is not just her insult, but the insult of crores of mothers,” Modi said emotionally.

He noted that though he entered politics late, he had been devoted to public service since childhood. “My mother blessed me, saying ‘go and serve the people.’ That very mother, who is no longer alive, has been abused from the Congress-RJD stage. Seeing tears in the eyes of mothers and sisters today has forced me to share my pain with you,” he said.

Attacking political dynasties, Modi said, “The naamdars born with golden and silver spoons cannot understand the pain of the poor and backward. They believe power in Bihar is their family’s right. But when the people made the son of a poor mother the pradhan sevak, they could not digest it. That is why I have been called ‘neech’ (despicable), a ‘drain worm,’ a ‘venomous snake’—and now even my late mother is being abused.”

He said this mindset against women is not new. “During RJD’s rule, when crime was rampant, women suffered the most. Murderers and rapists roamed freely under political protection. Women felt unsafe stepping out of their homes. Congress and RJD have always tried to suppress women’s strength—this is why they opposed women’s reservation,” Modi charged.

He further alleged that Congress has repeatedly insulted the country’s tribal daughter and President Droupadi Murmu, reflecting “a politics of arrogance and hatred towards women.” Concluding his speech, the Prime Minister raised slogans with women, declaring: “We will not tolerate abuse of mothers. We will not tolerate attacks on dignity. We will not tolerate RJD’s atrocities, nor Congress’s attacks. We will not tolerate the insult of our mothers and the nation’s women power.”

Modi underlined that empowering women remains his government’s top priority, citing schemes such as Har Ghar Nal (tap water), Ayushman Bharat, free ration, Lakhpati Didi, and Drone Didi. He also invoked upcoming festivals like Navratri and Bihar’s rich traditions of worshipping matrushakti, insisting that Congress and RJD must apologize to mothers and sisters.

During the event, the Prime Minister also gave a call for “Har Ghar Swadeshi” (self-reliance in every home), urging Bihar and the entire nation to move firmly towards an Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).

The remarks come in the backdrop of a viral video from Darbhanga where abusive slogans against the Prime Minister were raised during a “Voter Rights Yatra” from a Congress-RJD stage. BJP has seized on the incident to mount a sharp offensive against the Opposition.
