Dead body recovered from Champa River in Chirang, one still missing


Chirang (Assam), 02 September (HS): The dead body of a young man, missing since Sunday, was recovered this morning from the bank of Champa River in Basugaon area of Chirang district. Locals spotted the body about half a kilometer away from where he had disappeared two days earlier.

On Sunday, a group of ten youths from the Chinese Market area of New Bongaigaon had gone for a picnic at Champa River in Bhutiyapara. During the outing, two of them—identified as Sanjeet Roy (35) and Pukar Singh (25)—went missing under mysterious circumstances.

The SDRF team recovered Sanjeet Roy’s body found today has been identified as his. Search operations are still underway to trace Pukar Singh.

Meanwhile, police at Basugaon station have detained the other eight youths who were part of the picnic group for interrogation, following complaints lodged by the families of the deceased.-------
