Chennai, 2 September (H.S.) : The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has made a significant seizure of cocaine at Chennai International Airport. On September 2, the DRI officials seized 1.3 kg of cocaine, valued at approximately Rs 65 crore, from three passengers arriving from Addis Ababa via Dubai. The passengers, identified as Nigerian nationals, were intercepted and found to be carrying the contraband in specially designed vest jackets.

The DRI officials took the passengers into custody and initiated an investigation into the smuggling racket. The agency is probing the entire network involved in the smuggling operation, including the source of the cocaine and the intended recipients. The officials are also examining the passengers' travel history and connections to determine the extent of the smuggling operation.

The DRI's Chennai Zonal Unit has been vigilant in monitoring and intercepting contraband at the airport. The seizure highlights the agency's efforts to curb the smuggling of narcotics and other prohibited substances. The DRI will continue to take stringent action against those involved in smuggling activities, ensuring the safety and security of the country.
