Kolkata, 2 September (H.S.): The Jalpaiguri circuit bench of the Calcutta High Court has sought an explanation from the West Bengal Police over its failure to register an FIR on a complaint filed by Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari. The development came during a hearing on Monday, where Justice Aniruddha Roy questioned the Inspector General of Police (North Bengal) on why Adhikari’s complaint was not treated separately and why a suo motu case filed by the police was considered equivalent.
Adhikari, sharing a copy of the court order on Tuesday, accused the state government and police of attempting to “suppress the matter.” He reiterated allegations that North Bengal Development Minister Udayan Guha was behind the August 5 attack on his convoy in Khagrabari, Cooch Behar district—an accusation the police have not reflected in their own case records.
The BJP leader further pointed out that on August 6, his lawyer had lodged a complaint with the Cooch Behar district SP’s office against 41 individuals, explicitly naming Guha. However, the police FIR omitted the minister’s name, which Adhikari termed a “cover-up.”
Following his petition before the Jalpaiguri circuit bench, the High Court held a detailed hearing on Monday. The bench directed police officials to clarify their stance. Adhikari has asserted that he will not allow the accused to go scot-free and that “the truth will come out under the supervision of the court.”
