Jammu, 2 September (H.S.): Former Minister and senior BJP leader Abdul Ghani Kohli met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhawan and sought urgent relief and compensation for the people affected by the recent floods and cloudbursts in different parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

During the meeting, Kohli apprised the Lt Governor about the hardships faced by people living along the banks of rivers, who have suffered extensive losses due to flash floods, particularly in districts like Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, and Kishtwar.

Highlighting the situation in Doda and Kishtwar, Kohli said that cloudbursts in the region have not only resulted in loss of human lives but have also damaged houses, agricultural land, and livestock, leaving many families in distress. He emphasized the need for immediate rehabilitation of those injured and the families who have lost their breadwinners.

The senior BJP leader also drew the Lt Governor’s attention to the plight of people in Kalakote, Moghla, Teryath, Khwas, and Dhangri, Doongi areas of Rajouri district, which have been severely hit by floods and cloudbursts in recent weeks. He urged the administration to carry out on-ground assessments and ensure that adequate financial assistance and relief materials reach the affected households at the earliest.

The Lieutenant Governor gave a patient hearing to Kohli and assured him that the administration is already working on providing relief to the affected families.
