BJP accuses Congress, Madani and Gogoi of plotting to destabilize Assam

Guwahati, 02 September (HS): The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has alleged that a political conspiracy to disturb Assam’s social harmony was hatched during a dinner meeting in Delhi on July 23.

Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, BJP spokesperson Ranjib Kumar Sharma accused Rajya Sabha MP Arsad Madani of being a “sleeper cell of the Congress” and claimed that his visit to Assam was part of a pre-planned communal design. Sharma also targeted Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) president Lurinjyoti Gogoi, saying he had become a key propagandist for Congress’s “vote-bank politics.”

According to Sharma, the July 23 dinner at a Delhi hotel—attended by Congress, Samajwadi Party, National Conference and other leaders—was the starting point of a strategy to engineer polarization in Assam. He said this plan included projecting the eviction of illegal encroachers at the national level, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind’s demand for the Assam CM’s resignation and subsequent meetings and speeches in Guwahati and Delhi aimed at sparking unrest.

The BJP maintained that these were not isolated incidents but part of a “sequential design” to destabilize the state. However, Sharma added that the people of Assam had “rejected Congress’s agenda of division and appeasement,” calling Madani and Gogoi “mere pawns in the Congress’s political chess game.”
