01 Sept (HS): The Department of Food, Nutrition and Public Health at Sam Higginbottom
University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHUATS) today began its
week-long celebration of National Nutrition Week, 2025. The event, held at the
department’s seminar hall, aims to raise awareness about the importance of a
healthy and balanced diet for overall well-being. On the inaugural day,
students from the department provided interactive counseling sessions for their
peers from other faculties. They educated students on the fundamental
importance of a healthy diet and offered guidance on nutritional intake
tailored for different diseases. Additionally, they provided practical advice
on maintaining an ideal diet based on an individual's height and weight. The
first day also featured a vibrant Rangoli competition, focusing on themes of
food and nutrition.
Speaking
on the occasion, Professor (Dr.) Ritu Prakash Dubey, Head of the Department and
Pro-Vice-Chancellor (PMD), highlighted the significance of the event.
Nutrition is the bedrock of a healthy society, she stated.
Our youth must understand how a balanced diet directly impacts their
physical and mental well-being, paving the way for a more productive and
prosperous future. Through this week, we aim to empower our students with
knowledge that they can carry forward and share with the community.
She
also emphasized the vital link between agriculture and health.
Agriculture and nutrition are two sides of the same coin, he said.
As a leading agricultural university, it is our responsibility to teach
our students not just how to grow food, but also how to use it for optimal
health. This event is a perfect example of that holistic approach.

Professor
(Dr.) Biswaroop Mehra, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) and Dean NAI ,
concluded by stating, We believe that a university's role extends far
beyond academics. Events like National Nutrition Week are crucial for fostering
a culture of health and wellness that benefits our entire community. We are
proud of the department's efforts to educate our students and staff on a topic
so vital to our collective future. On this occasion prof. Neeru bala,
prof. Virjeniya Paul, Dr Alka Gupta, Dr Neha Mishra and big numbers of students
were present.
