Guwahati, 01 September (HS): In a significant development for the judiciary of the Northeast, two Additional Judges of the Gauhati High Court—Justice Budi Habung and Justice N. Unni Krishnan Nair—were on Monday formally sworn in as Judges of the same court.

The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, Justice Ashutosh Kumar, during a ceremonial event held at the High Court premises in Guwahati. Senior judges, advocates, court officials and members of the legal fraternity were present on the occasion to witness the swearing-in ceremony.

Justice Budi Habung and Justice N. Unni Krishnan Nair had been serving as Additional Judges of the Gauhati High Court before their elevation. Their confirmation as Judges comes as a step to strengthen the judicial system in the region, ensuring faster disposal of cases and improved access to justice for the people of Assam and other northeastern states under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

With these appointments, the strength of the Gauhati High Court has further increased, marking a crucial moment in the ongoing efforts to address the mounting backlog of cases.
