Hyderabad, 1 September (H.S.): The internal rift within the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) widened on Monday after party MLC and Telangana Jagruti president K Kavitha accused her cousin and senior BRS leader T Harish Rao of orchestrating a conspiracy to “frame” her father and former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) case.
Addressing a press conference in Hyderabad, Kavitha claimed that Harish Rao, along with former Rajya Sabha MP J Santosh Kumar and Megha Engineering and Infrastructure MD Krishna Reddy, were primarily responsible for the alleged irregularities. She alleged they “amassed huge wealth while misleading KCR” and accused them of colluding with present chief minister A Revanth Reddy.
Earlier in the day, CM Revanth Reddy announced a CBI probe into the Kaleshwaram project, citing inter-state issues and multiple central agencies being involved. The move followed the tabling of the PC Ghose Commission of Inquiry report, which pointed to serious lapses in the mega irrigation project executed under the BRS government.
Kavitha, however, defended her father’s legacy. “KCR is being scapegoated. He worked only for Telangana’s irrigation needs, never for money,” she said, asserting that he would emerge unscathed.
Meanwhile, Harish Rao dismissed the Ghose Commission findings as a “political drama”, accusing the state government of vendetta politics and highlighting procedural violations in the inquiry. Soon after, BRS members staged a walkout in the Assembly and symbolically dumped copies of the report into dustbins at Hyderabad’s Gun Park.
The explosive allegations have deepened the crisis in BRS, raising questions about internal power struggles at a time when the party is already battling a credibility crisis following its electoral defeat.
