Kolkata, 1 September (H.S.).
The West Bengal Assembly will hold a special three-day session to discuss alleged attacks on Bengali-speaking migrant workers in BJP-ruled states. The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) is set to move a resolution condemning these incidents, with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expected to participate in Thursday’s proceedings.
Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee announced on Monday that the session will feature detailed deliberations on the issue of migrant workers’ safety. “The alleged attacks on Bengali-speaking people in other states are not only unfortunate but also deeply concerning. A meaningful discussion is necessary, and we hope opposition legislators will participate peacefully,” the Speaker said.
As per the schedule, two hours each have been allocated for discussions on Tuesday and Thursday. The Assembly will remain adjourned on September 3 in observance of Karam Puja.
TMC leaders have alleged that Bengali-speaking people, particularly migrant laborers, are being targeted in BJP-governed states. The party has vowed to continue raising the issue, both inside the Assembly and through street protests.
