Patna, September 1(HS): The Indian National Development Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) is set to conclude its 16-day “Voter Adhikar Yatra” today in Patna, with opposition leader Rahul Gandhi leading the final leg of the journey. The event began at the historic Gandhi Maidan with a wreath-laying ceremony at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, symbolizing a tribute to the Father of the Nation.
Rahul Gandhi, accompanied by senior leaders including Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge and veteran Ashok Gehlot, was welcomed at Patna Airport by state president Rajesh Ram. After the ceremonial start, Gandhi and other top leaders proceeded towards Ambedkar Chowk for the concluding rally.
Though Rahul Gandhi aimed to conclude the march at Ambedkar Park near the High Court by paying homage at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s statue, authorities denied permission citing a court order limiting the march to proceed only up to Dakbungalow Chauraha. Despite this, the Congress remains determined to advance to Ambedkar Park, planning to hold a corner meeting with key leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav addressing the crowd. Extensive preparations, including banners and hoardings from Gandhi Maidan to Ambedkar Park, underscore the alliance’s commitment.
The administration is on high alert to prevent any untoward incidents, especially given recent clashes between Congress and BJP workers three days ago. Traffic rerouting has been issued with a ban on auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws operating around Gandhi Maidan. Security measures are in place to manage the expected tension due to the restricted march area.
This final phase in Patna marks a critical point in the alliance’s campaign to assert voter rights and political solidarity ahead of upcoming elections.
