Delhi, 1 September (H.S.): After a significant and fruitful visit to China, Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed for New Delhi, marking the successful conclusion of India's active participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit held in Tianjin. This visit, Prime Minister Modi’s first to China in seven years, underscored India’s commitment to fostering regional peace, security, and development through strengthened cooperation with China, Russia, and other SCO members.
Addressing the SCO Summit's plenary session, PM Modi emphasized India’s focused regional strategy built on three pillars: Security, Connectivity, and Opportunity. He remarked,
Security, peace and stability are the basis of development of any country. But terrorism, separatism and extremism are big challenges in this path.
Highlighting the sharp reality India faces on cross-border terrorism, he solemnly recalled the tragic Pahalgam attack in April 2025, stating,
So many mothers lost their children and so many children became orphans. India has taken the lead in the fight against terror outfits like Al-Qaeda and its associates, and we oppose any kind of terror-financing. I thank all the friendly nations who stood with us.
On connectivity, Modi reiterated India’s commitment to building trust-based development projects, emphasizing the need for respect towards sovereignty. Contrasting India's approach with China's Belt and Road Initiative, he said,
India firmly believes that strong connectivity ensures not just trade, but also trust and development. That is why we are advancing projects like Chabahar and the International North-South Transport Corridor, which will deepen links to Afghanistan and Central Asia. Connectivity that bypasses sovereignty loses trust and meaning.
In bilateral discussions,PM Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed on progressing relations with mutual respect and sensitivities.PM Modi highlighted,
We are committed to progressing our relations based on mutual respect, trust and sensitivities. A climate of peace and stability along the Himalayan border has been established, which is vital for the 2.8 billion people residing in India and China.
PM Modi also held constructive talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, reaffirming the special and privileged strategic partnership between India and Russia, particularly in trade, energy, and global peace initiatives. PM Modi warmly invited Putin for the upcoming summit in India, saying,
140 crore Indians are eagerly waiting for your visit this December.
Expressing gratitude on concluding his visit, PM Modi posted on social media:
Concluding a productive visit to China, where I attended the SCO Summit and interacted with various world leaders. Also emphasised India’s stand on key global issues. Thankful to President Xi Jinping, the Chinese government and people for the successful organisation of this Summit.
As the SCO summit Concluded, India’s vision of a secure, connected, and opportunity-rich region gained renewed momentum with PM Modi positioning India as a key player in shaping the Asian century through partnership, peace, and principled diplomacy.
