Guwahati, 01 September (HS): Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Monday chaired the 48th State Managing Committee meeting for the administration of the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund at the conference hall of NABARD, Dispur. The meeting deliberated on key issues concerning the welfare and rehabilitation of ex-servicemen and their families.

In his address, the Governor expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their commitment towards the welfare of soldiers. He emphasized that the meeting was not merely an administrative exercise but a significant step towards restoring trust and ensuring justice for the ex-servicemen community.

Highlighting the importance of the occasion, the Governor said, “It is a unique opportunity to chair this meeting, which addresses the welfare of veterans, war widows, war heroes, disabled soldiers and their dependents. I always feel proud to be part of initiatives that honour our soldiers, be it Armed Forces Flag Day, Kargil Vijay Diwas, or interactions with Veer Naris and veterans.”

He stressed on maintaining transparency and integrity in welfare initiatives, particularly in institutions like the Rajya Sainik Board, noting that their activities are directly linked to the lives of soldiers and their families.

Referring to his recent participation in the “Rishte Sainik Se” program, the Governor said such engagements help in better understanding the challenges faced by ex-servicemen. He underscored that supporting soldiers and their families is a collective responsibility of the nation, as their welfare forms a cornerstone of national security and development.

The Governor also highlighted ongoing efforts to modernize welfare delivery systems through digital platforms such as the Digital Sainik Portal and e-Governance initiatives, which have simplified access to pensions, healthcare, and benefits.

Further, he mentioned the Rashtriya Kritagyata evam Jagrookta Yojana, under which students from 266 educational institutions have been connected with real-life experiences of soldiers to instill patriotism and inspire nation-building.

Director of Sainik Welfare, Brig. Palash Chowdhury (Retd), briefed the meeting on steps taken to revitalize the Sainik Board. The meeting was also attended by Assam Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare, Nandita Garlosa.
