01 Sept (HS): The Narcotics team of the Crime Branch has arrested five people

including three men and two women with 74 kg of ganja in a major action. The

accused used to bring ganja from Orissa via road in a car and supply it in the

city. The price of the ganja is said to be Rs 15 lakh. This information was

given by ACP Cantt Anjali Vishkarma on Monday. For some time now, the drug

business has been flourishing in the city. The police have also launched a

campaign against it. Earlier also, the police have taken action against those who

buy and sell drugs from various police station areas of the city.

In

this sequence, the Crime Branch received information from an informer that a

large quantity of ganja was being brought to the city in a car from Orissa by

road. To catch the accused, the Crime Branch set up a blockade on the Ramadevi

flyover under the Chakeri police station area on Sunday night and caught five

smugglers (two women, three men) travelling in a car. The arrested accused told

that they were taking this ganja to the Sachendi police station area.

The

arrested accused have been identified as Sohail alias Suhan resident of

Kannauj, present address at Bithoor police station, Mallika Sultana resident of

Kannauj, present address at Bithoor police station, Shyam Singh resident of Sachendi

police station, Guddi resident of Sachendi police station, Devi Prasad resident

of Sachendi police station.

ACP

Cantt Anjali Vishkarma while addressing a press conference said that 74 kg 200

grams of ganja worth Rs 15 lakh has been recovered from the smugglers. Apart

from this, Rs 35,150 cash and five mobile phones have also been recovered. All

the five have been arrested and sent to jail after taking action against them

under the NDPS Act.

Arresting

team: Crime Branch SWAT team in-charge Inspector Tej Bahadur Singh, Narcotics

in-charge Vivek Yadav, Surveillance in-charge Mangal Singh and their team along

with Chakeri police station jointly carried out this action.
