BRO Restores Traffic with Alternate Bridge on Strategic Joshimath-Malari Route to China Border

Gopeshwar, September 1(HS):

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has successfully established an alternative bridge on the critical Tamak-Laung route, connecting Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district to the China border, restoring smooth traffic movement from Monday. This strategic artery’s reopening comes as a major relief to nearly 14 surrounding villages previously cut off due to severe weather disruptions.

Heavy rainfall on Saturday caused the Tamak stream to flood, sweeping away the only existing Tamak-Laung bridge that links the border area. As a result, villages including Tamak, Jumma, Kaga, Garpak, Dronagiri, Jelam, Kosha, Malari, Kailashpur, Mehragaon, Farkiya, Banpa, Gamshali, and Niti were isolated from other parts of the district, causing immense hardship for residents.

Responding swiftly, BRO’s relentless efforts culminated on Monday with the installation of a temporary structure in place of the washed-away bridge, enabling vehicular and pedestrian traffic to resume. Local leaders, former village heads Pushkar Singh Rana and Laxman Singh Butola, confirmed the significant improvement in connectivity and expressed collective relief on behalf of the affected communities.
