New Delhi, 01 September(HS): In a significant leadership transition at the Indian Air Force Headquarters, Air Marshal Sanjiv Ghuratia AVSM VSM assumed the prestigious appointment of Air Officer-in-Charge Maintenance today. Upon taking charge, the Air Marshal paid homage to the nation’s fallen heroes with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the National War Memorial, honoring the supreme sacrifices of India’s armed forces personnel.

Commissioned into the Aeronautical Engineering stream of the Indian Air Force in September 1988, Air Marshal Ghuratia brings an illustrious career spanning 37 years marked by exemplary service and technical excellence. An electrical engineer by profession, he holds degrees from renowned institutions including GEC Jabalpur, BITS Pilani, and Madras University, as well as a doctorate from Bhopal University. His extensive professional pedigree is further strengthened by his alumni status at the Defence Service Staff College, Wellington, Air Force Test Pilot School, and Air Force Technical College, Bengaluru.

A distinguished fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, London, the Aeronautical Society of India, and the Institute of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, he is also recognized as a Lead Auditor of ISO 45000 standards and an associate member of the Society of Flight Test Engineers, USA. His decorated career includes command and staff appointments across the IAF and international assignments, notably a commendation from the Force Commander during his tenure at the UN Mission in Congo.

Before his current appointment, Air Marshal Ghuratia served as the Senior Maintenance Staff Officer at HQ Maintenance Command, bringing valuable expertise to the pivotal role of overseeing maintenance operations for the force. His exceptional service has been recognized with the Vishisht Seva Medal in 2016 and the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2025, awarded by the Hon’ble President of India.

Air Marshal Ghuratia is supported in his endeavors by his wife, Mrs. Archana, and their two daughters, embodying a legacy of dedication both to family and country. His appointment marks a new chapter in sustaining the operational excellence and technical prowess of the Indian Air Force.
