Kolkata, 7 August (H.S.) -
Union Minister of State for Education and Development of the Northeastern Region, Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, has launched a scathing attack on the West Bengal government over the continued delay in the declaration of the Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) results. He accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of being indifferent to the future of students and held her administration responsible for the prolonged uncertainty.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Dr. Majumdar — who is also the former Bengal BJP president — wrote:
“The exam was conducted on April 27. Today is August 7 — three months and 11 days later — and the results have still not been declared. The West Bengal government has completely failed to publish the results of the Joint Entrance Examination.”
He alleged that thousands of students across the state remain trapped in a state of uncertainty, while the Chief Minister is focused on “spreading false and divisive narratives in the name of Bengali identity,” aimed solely at furthering her “appeasement-driven politics.”
Dr. Majumdar contrasted the situation in Bengal with other states, noting that higher education classes have already begun elsewhere, while students in West Bengal continue to suffer from anxiety and frustration. He blamed the ongoing crisis on what he called Mamata Banerjee’s “failure, negligence, and political appeasement.”
He further questioned: “How much longer will the youth of Bengal have to pay the price for this indifference?”
The delay in results comes in the wake of a Calcutta High Court order, which temporarily halted the publication of WBJEE results due to an ongoing case related to OBC reservations. The legal uncertainty has left students in limbo, with no clarity on when admissions to engineering and technical colleges will proceed.
