New Delhi, August 6(HS): After the cloudburst incident in Uttarkashi, no updates have emerged about the missing Indian Army personnel from a camp in lower Harsil. Meanwhile, the Indian Army has ramped up relief operations, rescuing over 70 individuals. Two additional teams have been dispatched to Gangotri and Dharali, while earth-moving equipment aims to clear the route from Harsil to Dharali. Drones and rescue dogs are actively searching for stranded civilians. Army officials have reported that 8-10 soldiers remain missing. Despite this, rescue efforts continue, with over 70 rescues noted since the landslide in Dharali, as clarified by the Army on Wednesday.

Colonel Harshvardhan, commanding officer of the 14 Rajputana Rifles leading the rescue mission post-cloudburst, reported that 150 personnel are engaged in vital operations after the Khirgadh landslide. The team, facing challenges with their base impacted and 11 soldiers missing, remains committed to their efforts. Currently, 20 rescues have been successfully executed, and more teams are on standby as the rescue mission continues. Colonel Harshvardhan emphasized the urgency of reaching every affected individual, with rescue operations commencing within 15 minutes of the landslide.

As of now, 130 individuals have been rescued, with 70-80 transported safely to Gangotri. Relief camps are providing essential services, including food and medical aid. Army and Air Force helicopters are prepared to deliver supplies, assist medically, and evacuate residents, depending on weather conditions. Additional military units have been stationed in Harsil, equipped with tracking dogs, drones, and earth-moving gear to enhance operations.

The Border Roads Organization (BRO) reported that persistent heavy rainfall has damaged NH-34 highway between Uttarkashi and Gangotri, with critical sections washed away and routes obstructed. Amidst these challenges, BRO is actively working on repairs.
