Uttarakhand: Gangotri Highway damaged, rescue teams stranded en route to Dharali.

Uttarkashi, August 6 (H.S.): Continuous heavy rainfall has washed out the Gangotri Highway near Dabrani, Papad Gad, and SonGadh. This has disrupted road traffic. Teams heading for the Dharali rescue operation are unable to reach there. Officials are stuck halfway.

Meanwhile, the BRO has started work to restore the road as soon as possible after assessing the situation. The District Operations Center Uttarkashi stated that nothing can be said about the timeline for the reopening of the Gangotri National Highway. The highway is washed out at three locations, leaving the rescue team and officials heading to Dharali stranded halfway.

It is important to note that Dharali is about 80 kilometers away from Uttarkashi and Harsil. The highway is washed out at three locations between Bhattwari and 40 kilometers. Due to extremely adverse weather, there is no option for helicopters for the Dharali rescue operation. Helicopters are unable to take off from Dehradun due to bad weather.

The district administration had sought assistance from the Air Force for the Dharali rescue operation using MI-17 and Chinook transport aircraft, but this has not been possible due to inclement weather.

Earlier, on Tuesday, a deluge from a mountain near Dharali village in Uttarkashi flooded the Kheer Ganga in just 30 seconds, sweeping away several homes. Eyewitnesses captured this horrifying scene on their phones.

The district administration has confirmed the deaths of four people in the Dharali flood disaster, while dozens are missing.
