Delhi, 6 August (H.S.): The Delhi Police arrested Sohan Rawat, 24, for allegedly snatching the gold chain of Lok Sabha MP R Sudha during her morning walk in Chanakyapuri, a high-security area. Rawat was captured by the Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS) near his residence in Okhla. He has a criminal history, with 26 cases registered against him, and had been released from jail on July 27. The police recovered the 30.90-gram gold chain, a stolen scooter, four suspected stolen mobile phones, and the suspect's clothes from the incident. CCTV footage showed him wearing a colorful full-sleeve T-shirt and a helmet, speeding on a black scooter before and after the crime.
In efforts to apprehend him, police mobilized 24 teams from various units, scanned over 1,500 CCTV cameras, including those near embassies, and questioned more than 200 individuals, focusing on recent parolees and known snatchers. Sudha reported the incident happened near the Polish embassy, expressing shock that such an event occurred in a supposedly secure zone and stating she suffered neck injuries and torn clothes. The AATS resolved the case within 24 hours, revealing Rawat, also known as Sonu or Buggu, had been involved in numerous criminal activities across more than 15 police stations in Delhi.
