Kolkata, 5 August (H.S.): A day after TMC MP Kalyan Bandopadhyay's resignation as Chief Whip of the Trinmool Congress in Lok Sabha, the TMC appointed Dr. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar as the new Chief Whip, while veteran actress-turned-politician Shatabdi Roy was named Deputy Leader of the party in the lower house. The All India Trinamool Congress announced these changes officially on Tuesday.
According to the party statement, Bandopadhyay submitted his resignation to the chairperson, who accepted it and thanked him for his service. After consulting senior MPs, the chairperson promptly appointed Dr. Dastidar as Chief Whip and Roy as Deputy Leader.
Additionally, the party decided that Abhishek Banerjee will replace Sudip Bandopadhyay as the leader of TMC in Lok Sabha, marking a further reshuffle in the party’s parliamentary leadership.
