Delhi, 5 August (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief over the demise of Satyapal Malik.
The Prime Minister said;
“Saddened by the passing away of Shri Satyapal Malik Ji. My thoughts are with his family and supporters in this hour of grief. Om Shanti.”
Satya Pal Malik was an Indian politician who served as the governor of five states: Bihar, Odisha, Jammu and Kashmir, Goa, and Meghalaya. His political career began as a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from 1974 to 1977 and extended to the Rajya Sabha from 1980 to 1986 and 1986 to 1989. He represented Aligarh in the 9th Lok Sabha from 1989 to 1991 as a member of Janata Dal. He was Governor of Bihar from October 2017 to August 2018 and received additional responsibilities as Governor of Odisha until May 2018. He became the 10th and last Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, serving until October 2019, a tenure marked by the revocation of the state's special status in August 2019. Later, he served as the 18th governor of Goa and the 21st governor of Meghalaya until October 2022. He passed away at the age of 79 after a prolonged illness involving diabetic kidney disease, hypertension, and other complications, despite aggressive medical intervention, as confirmed by Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi.
