Delhi, 5 August (H.S.): Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is in India for a five-day official visit marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and the Philippines. He will engage in bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House, focusing on cooperation in maritime, defense, trade, and digital technology. Previously, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met him as part of his visit.

Today, On August 5, he will lay a wreath at Rajghat, hold discussions with PM Modi, and participate in the exchange of Memoranda of Understanding and press statements. Other meetings will include discussions with Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare J.P. Nadda and President Murmu, before traveling to Bengaluru for engagements with Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Ghelot.

Since establishing diplomatic ties in November 1949, India and the Philippines have built a strong partnership across multiple sectors, including trade, defense, and digital technologies, aligning with India's 'Act East' Policy. The visit aims to deepen bilateral ties and tackle regional and international challenges of mutual interest, reflecting a longstanding relationship grounded in shared democratic values and historical ties.
