Bapatla (Andhra Pradesh), August 3 (HS): In a tragic incident on Sunday morning, six migrant workers from Odisha lost their lives after a massive rock face collapsed at the Satyakrishna Granite Quarry near Ballikurava in Andhra Pradesh’s Bapatla district.
According to police sources, the quarry accident occurred while 16 workers were engaged at the site. A sudden rockslide buried several of them under debris. Six people died on the spot, while ten others sustained severe injuries.
Rescue teams have so far recovered four bodies and are working to retrieve two more believed to be trapped under the rubble. The injured workers were rushed to a government hospital in Narasaraopet, where several remain in critical condition.
Bapatla Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi visited the accident site and is personally monitoring the rescue and relief operations.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the quarry may have been operating with insufficient safety protocols. Authorities have hinted that negligence might have played a role in the tragic collapse.
Expressing deep concern over the incident, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has ordered a comprehensive inquiry into the cause of the accident. He has also directed local officials to ensure that all injured workers receive the best medical treatment available.
