Bhopal, 3 August (H.S.): Former BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur on Sunday described her acquittal in the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast case as a victory of Hindutva and a slap in the face of those who coined the term saffron terror.

Thakur’s reaction came after a special court on July 31 acquitted her, Lt Col Prasad Purohit, and five others, citing lack of credible and consistent evidence presented by the prosecution to establish guilt beyond reasonable doubt.

The Malegaon blast, which occurred on September 29, 2008, in Maharashtra’s Nashik district, had claimed six lives and left 101 people injured. The case had stirred national political debate, with the term saffron terror becoming a controversial label in the years that followed.
