BJP to play decisive role: Dilip Saikia

Tamulpur (Assam), 03 August (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Sunday that elections for the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) will be conducted before Durga Puja. He made the announcement while addressing a BJP election rally at Nagrajuli in Tamulpur district.

Dr. Sarma said that this time, he will visit Nagrajuli during Durga Puja and highlighted ongoing development works in the region. He informed the public about the construction of a bridge at Balti, Matanga and Pagladia, and also announced a new college in Nagrajuli.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the region has witnessed complete peace in the last five years under BJP’s leadership. “There have been no incidents of violence, bullets or bomb blasts. Now that peace has been established, our next mission is the development of BTR in the coming five years,” he said.

He asserted that all citizens of BTR will be treated equally, with no one being considered a second-class citizen. “People from all 26 communities living in BTR will be first-class citizens of Assam,” he stated.

Dr. Sarma also reiterated that Indian citizens will not need to prove their citizenship, and those of Indian origin will not be evicted. “Only infiltrators, especially those from Bangladesh, will be required to produce documents,” he said.

Clarifying the BJP’s position, he said the party is not against BPF or UPPL but is preparing to contest the BTR election independently. “Before Durga Puja, BJP will be in power in Kokrajhar, and after Durga Puja, in Dispur as well,” he added.

Speaking at the same event, Assam State BJP President and MP Dilip Saikia said the BJP will play a decisive role in the upcoming BTR election. “Wherever the BJP stands, government formation is assured,” he remarked.

The rally was also attended by Minister Jayanta Malla Barua, Victor Das, Ratul Sharma, Shankar Das, Dr. Dharmanarayan Das, Binand Kalita, Ranjit Sarkar, Ram Das Tola, Seema Das, Rajesh Boro, Lakhi Das, Bhanu Majumdar, Gajen Das, and Golab Lohal, among others.
