New Delhi, August 21 (HS): Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh on Thursday emphasized the need to boost India’s handloom and handicrafts exports, while underlining efforts to enhance the earnings of women artisans to at least ₹15,000–20,000 per month.
Speaking at the inauguration of the newly developed craft complex ‘The Kunj’ at Vasant Kunj in the capital, Singh highlighted that nearly 10 million people across the country are engaged in the handloom and handicraft sector. He said the complex would provide a strong platform for artisans to showcase their products nationally and globally.
“Our goal is to raise the income of our women artisans—our ‘Shilp Didis’—to a sustainable level of ₹15,000–20,000 per month. At the same time, we must strive to take handicrafts and handlooms exports to new milestones,” Singh said.
About ‘The Kunj’
The ‘Kunj Bhavan’ craft complex is envisioned as a cultural and retail hub that celebrates and promotes the rich diversity of India’s traditional handlooms and handicrafts.
