Guwahati, 02 August (HS): Vigyan Bharati, under its North East chapter North East Science Movement (NESM), released an informative magazine focused on the upcoming National Science Talent Examination at a function held at the Assam Pollution Control Board auditorium in Bamunimaidam, Guwahati on Saturday.

The event was jointly supported by the Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the Assam Pollution Control Board.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Arvind Ranade, National Secretary of Vigyan Bharati and Director of the National Innovation Foundation, emphasized that the examination is not just a test but an initiative to cultivate scientific curiosity and critical thinking among students.

Dignitaries present included Dr. Ramesh Chandra Deka, Vice Chancellor of Cotton and Pragjyotish Universities; Dr. Smriti Kumar Sinha; and Prof. Madhurya Bora of Gauhati University. Principals and teachers from leading academic institutions of the city also participated and shared their insights.

The event was chaired by the Chairman of the Assam Pollution Control Board, while Fanindra Bujarbaruah, Member of the Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, welcomed the guests and appreciated the initiative.

The examination, targeted at students from classes 6 to 11, will test knowledge in science, mathematics, general awareness, and content from two prescribed books—Contribution of Indian Science to World Civilization and Biography of an Indian Scientist. It will be conducted in 14 languages, beginning with an online round, followed by regional, zonal, and national levels based on merit.

Meritorious students will receive awards and opportunities to visit premier scientific institutions and laboratories across India.

A highlight of the event was the felicitation of Kavya Poddar, a Class 8 student who secured the second position nationally in last year’s examination. NESM's Northeast Secretary Rajiv Chandra Sharma urged all stakeholders to support the successful conduct of the exam scheduled for October–November.
