New Delhi, August 2 (HS): Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi criticized the Election Commission for its handling of the special intensive review of the voter list in Bihar, questioning the commission's neutrality. He expressed doubts about India's electoral system, a sentiment that has grown since 2014, exacerbated by recent election results that he cited as not being natural, including those in Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh. Gandhi highlighted the unusual defeat of Congress and its allies in Maharashtra's Assembly elections shortly after winning the Lok Sabha elections, attributing it to suspected tampering with voter lists.
At the Congress 'National Legal Conference' in Vigyan Bhawan, attended by key leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, he revealed that Congress's investigation over six months indicated the addition of one crore new voters predominantly leaning towards the BJP, with about one and a half lakh of them identified as fake. Rahul claimed they possess substantial evidence regarding these discrepancies and announced plans to make this evidence public soon, asserting that India's electoral fairness is compromised and the Election Commission has been degraded.
He urged lawyers to defend the Constitution, emphasizing the historical role of legal figures in India's independence movement under leaders like Gandhi, Nehru, Patel, and Ambedkar. Rahul underscored the ongoing political, social, and constitutional battle, expressing his determination to continue opposing unjust policies despite facing legal challenges. He concluded by urging the public to awaken to the realities of the electoral system once the evidence is revealed.
