Darang (Assam), 02 August (HS): A shocking case of domestic violence has surfaced from Shyampur No. 4 in Dalgaon under Assam’s Darang district, where a man allegedly murdered his pregnant wife, police informed on Saturday.

According to police sources, the accused, identified as Sarfat Ali, brutally killed his second wife, Sairan Nessa, just adjacent to the Shyampur police station. The victim had reportedly been subjected to prolonged mental and physical abuse.

Police said Sarfat Ali had married Sairan Nessa only five months ago after the death of his first wife. Preliminary information suggests that suspicion over an alleged extramarital affair of the victim may have triggered the crime.

Upon receiving the alert, police reached the scene, recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway. As of now, the accused remains absconding.
