The dispute over the purchase of land in Kanaipur area of Konnagar in Hooghly district led to the murder of Trinamool Congress leader Pintu Chakraborty alias Munna. Police investigation has revealed that a contract of Rs 3 lakh was given for his murder. The police have arrested the three main accused involved in this incident. Many important information has come to light during interrogation.
According to the police, Biswanath Das alias Bisha of Kanaipur had conspired for this murder. He had given a contract to Biswanath Pramanik of the Shasan area of North 24 Parganas and Deepak Mandal of Barasat to kill Pintu. Both the killers had reached Bisha's house two days before the murder and did a recce of the area.
On July 30, when Pintu Chakraborty came out of the gas office, an attacker cut off his hand with a sharp weapon. Seriously injured Pintu was taken to SSKM Hospital, where he died.
After the incident, the accused walked for some time and then fled from the area on a scooter. The police started investigating and started scanning the CCTV footage of the area. The footage clearly shows that the attackers first did a recce of the area and then attacked Pintu Chakraborty with a knife. During the recce, the accused were continuously talking to someone on the phone, due to which their tower location was also tracked.
The police have so far arrested three people in this case, including the brother of a notorious criminal and two contract killers. Apart from this, one more person has been taken into custody and is being questioned. All the arrested accused are also said to be businessmen close to Pintu Chakraborty.
DCP Serampore Arnab Biswas said, In the investigation so far, it has become clear that this murder has been done due to a land dispute. No political reason has come to light in this. This is a completely planned contract killing. He also said that the police is trying to find out whether there is any other big face or conspiracy behind this murder.
All the arrested accused will be presented in Serampore Sub-divisional Court on Sunday.
