Kolkata, 16 August (H.S.) — West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Governor Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose on Saturday extended warm greetings to the people of the state on the occasion of Shri Krishna Janmashtami.

Taking to social media platform X, Banerjee wrote, “Heartfelt greetings to everyone on Janmashtami.”

Governor Bose also conveyed his wishes, stating that Lord Krishna’s divine love and wisdom should illuminate the path of humanity. “May His eternal teachings give us the courage to walk the path of righteousness, duty, justice, and equality,” he said in his message.

The festival is being celebrated with devotion and enthusiasm across West Bengal. Shri Krishna Janmashtami marks the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna, the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, and is observed on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada.

This year, the Ashtami tithi began on the night of August 15 and will continue until the evening of August 16, with midnight prayers and rituals marking the highlight of the celebration. Temples across the state — from Mathura and Vrindavan to Kolkata — have been specially decorated for the occasion.
