-Landmark Expressway and Urban Road Network to Decongest Capital and Boost Multi-Modal Transit
New Delhi, August 16(HS): In a landmark push towards transforming Delhi-NCR’s transport landscape, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate two mega national highway projects worth nearly ₹11,000 crore tomorrow on Sunday(August 17). The grand inauguration ceremony is scheduled at Rohini around 12:30 pm, where the Prime Minister will also address the gathering, underscoring the government’s commitment to building world-class infrastructure that caters to both mobility and ease of living.
The highlights of this ambitious package are the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Alipur–Dichaon Kalan stretch of the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II), projects that are poised to serve as arteries for seamless connectivity, reduced congestion, and faster mobility across Delhi and its adjoining regions.
Dwarka Expressway Delhi Section: A Game Changer for Multimodal Connectivity
The much-anticipated 10.1-km Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway, developed at a cost of approximately ₹5,360 crore, is set to dramatically boost transit convenience.
This high-tech roadway has been carefully designed to provide multi-modal connectivity to key regional hubs: the state-of-the-art Yashobhoomi Convention Centre, Delhi Metro’s Blue and Orange Lines, the upcoming Bijwasan Railway Station, and the Dwarka Cluster Bus Depot.
Divided into two vital packages, the Delhi section ensures smooth transit across the western flank of the Capital:
-Package I (5.9 km): From Shiv Murti intersection to the Road Under Bridge at Dwarka Sector-21.
-Package II (4.2 km): From Dwarka Sector-21 RUB to the Delhi–Haryana border, knitting directly into the Urban Extension Road-II.
It is worth recalling that the Haryana section of the Dwarka Expressway—spanning 19 km—was earlier inaugurated by the Prime Minister in March 2024, making tomorrow’s unveiling a significant milestone in completing this futuristic expressway corridor.
UER-II: A Lifeline Beyond Delhi
The second project to be inaugurated, the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II), is set to revolutionize traffic flow in and out of Delhi. Built at an investment of around ₹5,580 crore, the Alipur–Dichaon Kalan stretch of UER-II comes with two crucial new links extending towards Bahadurgarh and Sonipat.
This new expressway spine is expected to substantially ease choke points at Mukarba Chowk, Dhaula Kuan, and NH-09, while also diverting heavy traffic away from Delhi’s already saturated Inner and Outer Ring Roads.
For commuters and industries alike, UER-II will act as a direct conduit to major NCR towns, providing faster access to industrial hubs, boosting goods movement, and accelerating the economic dynamism of the region.
Prime Minister’s Vision for Seamless Mobility
Both projects align with Prime Minister Modi’s larger vision of propelling India into an era of integrated, world-class infrastructure. By directly addressing issues of congestion and enhancing connectivity, these corridors are expected to slash travel time, decongest arterial roads, and provide a smooth movement network connecting highways, metro lines, railway stations, airports, and industrial zones.
As Delhi continues to grapple with burgeoning traffic pressure, these two mega projects signal a bold stride towards reshaping the city’s mobility map, ushering in the ease of living for its residents while catalyzing regional development.
