Bhubaneswar, 16 August (H.S.): In a significant development in the fight against corruption, Sri Subash Chandra Nayak, Former Headmaster-cum-Secretary of Rangapaju UP School under Tumudibandha Block, Kandhamal district, has been convicted in a corruption case and sentenced to rigorous imprisonment by the Hon’ble Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani.

The Odisha Vigilance had earlier filed a chargesheet against Nayak under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(c)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and Section 409 of the IPC, pertaining to misappropriation of government funds allocated for the construction of a classroom in the school.

After examining the evidence, the court found Nayak guilty and sentenced him to four years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹50,000. Upon conviction, Nayak was immediately taken into judicial custody to serve his sentence.

It is worth noting that after committing the offense, Nayak had absconded from the school, avoiding administrative accountability for a significant period. Now, with his conviction, Odisha Vigilance has announced its intention to move the competent authority to initiate dismissal proceedings against Nayak from government service.
