Guwahati, 16 August (HS): Assam Minister of Health & Family Welfare and Irrigation, Ashok Singhal, on Saturday toured Kamrup Rural and Baksa districts to inaugurate several new healthcare services.
He first inaugurated a six-bed free dialysis unit under the Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme at Rangia Model Hospital. The minister said this initiative would benefit nearly 2.5 lakh people, especially kidney patients.
Following this, Singhal inspected Rangia Civil Hospital in the presence of Rangia MLA Bhabesh Kalita and Hajo MLA Suman Haripriya.
Later in the day, he inaugurated the Malocharan Brahma Kaklabari Model Hospital. Addressing the gathering, Singhal stressed that “prevention is more important than cure,” urging citizens to adopt yoga, walking and exercise in their daily routine. A souvenir was also released during the event.
The minister also laid the foundation stone of the Gati Mini Primary Health Centre and inaugurated the Nimuwa Model Hospital. He reiterated the government’s commitment to provide free medicines in all government hospitals, highlighting that 353 essential drugs have already been ensured in supply.
Assam’s Handloom & Textiles Minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma, Bhabanipur MLA Phanidhar Talukdar, BTR Executive Member Gautam Das, NHM Assam Executive Director Dr. Manoj Kumar Choudhury, AYUSH Director Dr. Indunishi Das, along with several senior health officials were present at the programs.
