16 Aug (HS): A 45-year-old man was killed after being beaten with an iron rod

during an argument at a birthday celebration here, police reported on Saturday.

Three persons have been detained and jailed in connection with the incident, he

added. According to Superintendent of Police (City) Ayush Vikram Singh, Abdul

Karim, a resident of the Machheran area of Meerut, went to a birthday party at

a relative's nearby house on Friday night. An incident broke out at the party,

and Karim was severely hurt. He was transported

to a hospital, where physicians proclaimed him dead. SP According to SP Singh, Karim's family

filed a complaint against five persons, three of whom were detained and jailed.

He added efforts are on to apprehend the other two absconders, and the body has

been submitted for a post-mortem.
