New Delhi, August 15 (HS) : Marking Independence Day with a powerful message from the ramparts of the Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ambitious and historic defence initiative — ‘Mission Sudarshan Chakra’ — a cutting-edge weapons system designed not just to neutralise enemy attacks, but to deliver a decisive and crushing counterstrike.
Framing it as a leap into the future of warfare, PM Modi said the nature of modern conflict is being shaped more and more by advanced technology — and India must upgrade its defence capabilities at the same pace. Mission Sudarshan Chakra, he declared, will be developed entirely in India, harnessing the talent, skill, and innovation of the nation’s youth, from research and development to manufacturing and deployment.
Recalling the success of Operation Sindoor, the Prime Minister hailed India’s ability to thwart recent missile and drone strikes launched by Pakistan. He credited the robust defence infrastructure built over the past decade for ensuring that India’s airbases, strategic sites, and places of faith remained secure, with every enemy attempt decisively foiled.
Looking ahead to 2035, PM Modi announced that all key strategic and civilian installations — including hospitals, railway stations, and religious landmarks — will be equipped with advanced, technology-driven security shields.
Drawing a symbolic parallel to the Mahabharata, the Prime Minister invoked the legendary moment when Lord Krishna used the divine Sudarshan Chakra to eclipse the sun, enabling Arjuna to fulfill his mission. “India’s Mission Sudarshan Chakra will work on the same principle — not just to block an attack, but to strike back with unmatched precision and overwhelming force,” he said.
The mission, he revealed, will rest on three core pillars:
-Purely Indigenous Technology : All research, design, and testing will be done within India.
-Future-Ready Strategy : A proactive ‘Plus One’ approach to anticipate and counter emerging threats.
-Unerring Precision :Like the mythical Sudarshan Chakra, the system will hit its target accurately and return safely.
Closing his address, PM Modi offered a powerful reminder: “No matter how prosperous a nation is, without security, prosperity is meaningless. We must build an India where every citizen feels safe. Mission Sudarshan Chakra is a decisive step towards that vision.”
