Delhi,August 15(HS): India marked its 79th Independence Day with a chorus of patriotic tributes from its top leaders, echoing the nation’s unshakeable spirit and transformative aspirations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation from the historic Red Fort for the 12th consecutive year, delivering a message brimming with hope and resolve. Extending his greetings, he wrote:

“Wishing everyone a very happy Independence Day. May this day inspire us to keep working even harder to realise the dreams of our freedom fighters and build a Viksit Bharat. Jai Hind!”

In his morning address, the Prime Minister underscored the nation’s quest for progress:

“This great festival of freedom is a festival of 140 crore resolutions. PM Modi also paid homage to the country’s resilience in testing times and saluted the armed forces, emphasizing self-reliance and the indomitable Indian spirit.

President Droupadi Murmu, in her address to the nation on the eve of Independence Day, reflected on the nation’s journey and its democratic foundations:

“I extend my heartiest greetings to all of you on the eve of Independence Day. It is a matter of pride for all of us that Independence Day and Republic Day are celebrated by every Indian with great enthusiasm. These are the days that especially remind us of our being proud Indians.”

She praised India’s achievements and called for unity in facing challenges:

“Our Constitution and democracy are above everything else… As we look back, we must never forget the pain inflicted by Partition. Today, we pay tributes to those who were victims of the mistakes of history. Let us honor their memory by forging ahead with collective purpose and compassion.”

President Murmu also highlighted the country’s strides in self-reliance and resilience:

“India is well on its way to becoming a self-reliant nation and is moving ahead with great confidence.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s message honored both the legacy of the freedom movement and collective responsibility for the future:

“Heartfelt congratulations to all countrymen on Independence Day. I pay homage to the freedom fighters who sacrificed everything in the independence movement. I salute the brave soldiers who work tirelessly for the unity, integrity, and pride of the nation. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh viewed the day as hallowed remembrance and a call for unity:

“This day is not just a celebration of our freedom but a sacred remembrance of the courage, sacrifice and supreme selflessness of countless heroes who gave us the honour of a free India. Let us take inspiration from their ideals and work together to build a secure, strong, and prosperous Viksit Bharat.”

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar encapsulated the nation’s collective pride:

“Heartfelt greetings to all countrymen on Independence Day. Jai Hind! Jai Bharat!”

BJP President and Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda added:

“On this auspicious day, I pay my respects to the great revolutionaries, freedom fighters, and immortal martyrs who sacrificed everything for the freedom of Mother India. Under the leadership of our respected Prime Minister, New India is progressing rapidly with new energy, confidence, and pride. Let us all resolve to build a self-reliant and developed India together.”

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, took to X this Independence Day to extend his greetings and patriotic commitment to the nation. In his message, Gadkari stated:Heartfelt greetings to all countrymen on Independence Day.On this national festival, I salute our patriotic fighters and immortal martyrs.Let us all march forward together with the resolve to build a prosperous New India and fulfill the dream of an Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).”

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge marked Independence Day 2025 with a pointed message on X, reaffirming his party’s commitment to the values of unity, justice, and constitutional democracy—while sharply criticizing the ruling government’s record.

Kharge paid homage to the nation’s freedom fighters and highlighted the importance of remembering their sacrifices, calling attention to icons such as Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Patel, and Subhas Chandra Bose. He emphasized:

“Unity in diversity is our strength, not our weakness. The Congress will continue to oppose any attempt to divide Indians along religious, caste or regional lines. Our resolve to protect democracy and the Constitution—against all odds and till our last breath—remains unshaken.”

Mamata Banerjee pledged:

“Let us renew our commitment to an inclusive, just, and secular India where every voice matters and every citizen is empowered. Happy Independence Day to all!”

Rahul Gandhi highlighted:
