New Delhi, August 14(HS): On the eve of Independence Day, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh played host to 30 bright higher secondary students from the tribal communities of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands at South Block, calling on them to walk the twin paths of academic excellence and moral strength.
The interaction formed part of Aarohan: Dweep to Delhi, a week-long National Integration Tour organised by the Andaman & Nicobar Command (ANC) with support from the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, HQ Delhi Area, and the Civil Administration of the Islands. The tour aims to bridge geographical divides, offering young islanders a first-hand experience of India’s heritage, institutions, and developmental strides.
Human Values are the True Measure of Success
In a warm and spirited exchange, Rajnath Singh reminded the students that “human values are the most vital aspect in building a person’s character.” He urged them to remain grounded, exuding compassion and integrity, while striving for scholastic achievements.
Encouraging the students to face challenges with confidence and a fearless outlook, the Defence Minister emphasised their role in shaping India into one of the most powerful nations of the future, blessing them for their journeys ahead.
A Gesture of Affection and Cultural Exchange
In a cordial moment, Rajnath Singh offered sweets to the visiting students, who, in turn, presented him with a traditional handcrafted souvenir created by tribal artisans of their homeland — a token reflecting the Islands’ unique culture.
The event was graced by Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan and Chief of Integrated Defence Staff Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, underlining the importance the defence establishment places on fostering bonds with India’s remotest communities.
Connecting Islands to the Mainland
Launched with a vision to broaden horizons, Aarohan: Dweep to Delhi takes the students on a journey through iconic national landmarks such as the Red Fort, India Gate, National War Memorial, and the Taj Mahal. The itinerary also includes exposure to premier institutions like Delhi Technological University and the National Science Centre.
By weaving together history, modernity, and academic insight, the programme reflects the Government’s commitment to national integration and youth empowerment — ensuring that the young torchbearers from the Islands carry home not just memories, but a renewed sense of belonging to the nation’s collective identity.
As the tricolour prepares to soar high over the Red Fort tomorrow, these 30 young ambassadors from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands will stand as proud witnesses — a symbol of unity in India’s vast and diverse tapestry.
