New Delhi, August 14(HS): On the eve of Parsi New Year — Navroz, President Droupadi Murmu extended heartfelt greetings to citizens across the country, with a special message to members of the Parsi community.

In her address, the President described Navroz as an occasion that “symbolises renewal, hope, and prosperity,” marking not just the turning of the calendar but the reaffirmation of values that bind communities together. She lauded the Parsi community for its spirit of enterprise and steadfast commitment to public welfare, noting that their contributions have been “invaluable to the progress of our nation.”

Calling the festival a celebration of India’s rich cultural heritage, President Murmu emphasised that traditions like Navroz strengthen the country’s social fabric. “May this special festival bring peace and prosperity to all and inspire every citizen to contribute towards building an inclusive nation,” she said, underscoring the need for collective harmony and national unity.

Navroz, observed with rituals of cleaning, renewal, and feasting, holds deep significance for Parsis worldwide, marking the Zoroastrian new year and the arrival of spring in the Persian calendar. In India, the community — though small in number — is widely admired for its philanthropic legacy, entrepreneurship, and service to society, from industry and education to civic initiatives.

As celebrations unfold in Parsi colonies and homes, the President’s message serves as a reminder of the enduring role of cultural diversity in shaping India’s inclusive and progressive vision.
